Our Story
"Believing in oneself is the key to success"Shilen Thakerar, born in Kisumu, Kenya. Spent my early primary school days here by the lush Lake Victoria. I had all odds against me, being a rebellious child and was sent to boarding school in the UK at the tender age of 11. Initially, hating the whole experience and cold weather in Brighton, where I completed my secondary schooling. Not knowing that this experience is what made me who I am today.
I enrolled to read Business and Engineering at the University of Coventry, and realized within just one term, this was not for me and returned home back to Kisumu in 1993.
Five years later in 1998, I headed to Nairobi to seek greener pastures. One of the Golden rules in business, – Don’t go into business with your significant other. But in October 1998, I met my life and business partner, Bansri and the rest is history, as they say. We were a good team ; Bansri handled the Administration and Finance and I took to Sales and Marketing. Bansri was born and brought up in Nairobi. She then moved to the UK to read Business and French at the University of Bolton. Bansri moved back to Nairobi in 1998 and worked as a Management Consultant.
The vision for Crown Healthcare was rooted and documented as a Business plan when I was just 16 years old, while I was doing a case study in the UK.
We have been in the industry for 22 years now. Today Crown Healthcare has grown to become the premier supplier of End to End hospital solutions. Enjoying representation in Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda and Nigeria. We have established ourselves as the preferred providers of World class Medical devices, disposables and pharmaceuticals products across the African region.
Most of us come from humble beginnings. We make something of ourselves through dreams, hard-work and little good fortune.
